We are all here for a reason. For many of us, that reason is to learn how to help others, even though there are times when we feel powerless to do so. We understand the setbacks, the struggles, and the uncertainty that often accompany recovery because many of us have lived through them ourselves. Seeing someone else face those same moments reminds us why we chose to become peers.

The key to connecting people with resources is not always knowing exactly where to look or how to complete an application. More often, it begins with someone who is willing to listen, hold space, see the person before the problem, and remind them that they do not have to face their challenges alone.

Never underestimate the value of your presence. Sometimes, before someone can connect to any other resource, you are the resource they need most.

If you don’t give up on them, chances are they won’t give up on themselves either.
