Effective support begins by identifying the person’s most immediate need. A clinical settings may appropriately prioritize assessment and treatment, the individual in crisis may be most concerned with practical needs such as food or housing. For them it is essential to address the concern with the greatest impact on their life in that moment.

Peers believe in meeting people where they are in that moment.  Validating their concerns and helping them advocate for what they need will start to build the foundations for recovery.

So how do we, as peers, determine what resources people need immediately and what can be pursued later?
