Peer support systems have proven to be highly effective because they are built on shared lived experience, mutual understanding, and authentic connection. Unlike traditional service models that can sometimes feel clinical or hierarchical, peer support creates a space where individuals feel seen, heard, and validated by someone who has “been there.” This relatability fosters trust more quickly, reduces feelings of isolation, and encourages people to engage in their own recovery journey.

Research and real-world outcomes consistently show that peer support can improve hope, increase self-determination, reduce hospitalizations, and strengthen long-term recovery by emphasizing empowerment rather than dependency. RIPPLE plays a vital role in expanding access to these kinds of supports across Connecticut. Since 2020, RIPPLE has developed a range of community-driven resources, including peer support groups like If You’re Talking, There’s Time, a growing online recovery hub through rockingrecovery.org, and digital connection spaces such as the Voices in the Night Discord server.

By offering hundreds of hours of peer connection, crisis-informed support options, and easy access to recovery resources, RIPPLE helps bridge gaps in the system, especially for individuals who may not feel comfortable in traditional settings. Their work demonstrates how grassroots, peer-led initiatives can create meaningful, accessible systems of support that truly meet people where they are.

If You’re Talking, There’s Time: Is a group inspired by the Alternatives to Suicide or Alt2Su model created by Wildflower Alliance. Group facilitators are people with lived experience in suicidal ideations and who have been trained in one or more peer support models. These groups currently meets every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday nights from 9:00 – 11:00PM (EST). Given the nature of the conversations held in this group pre-registration is required.

Voices in the Night: Join our Discord server for news, information, and to meet up with others to on both text and voice channels. Our goal is to grow this server where we will have enough people on at any given time to talk and hold space for one another. The server is free to join and anyone is welcomed to stop by and check it out.
